I found my old copy of version 1.3 and have decided to move back to it from version 2.1.58. Is there a way to automatically export all my passwords from 2.158 to 1.3? Or will I have to enter each on manually?
Also, will Access Manager 1.3 function in Vista?
Version 1.3 of this program was excellent. Small and lightining fast. Then Citi-Software decided to use the Microsoft .Net Framework. As a consequence, all of the newer versions of Access Manager 2 use up a tremendous amount of RAM and start up slower (20 seconds and more) even more so than some of the larger programs I have.
And to make matters worse, version 2.1.58 won't let me double click on some of the links I have in the notes section. Instead, I have to right right click to "links" and open it that way. Some yes, and the others no. Something is wrong here.
I wish that Citi-Software would stop using Microsoft .NET Framework in Access Manager. It ruined a great software. |

Unfortunately, there is no easy way to move passwords from version 2.1.x to version 1.3. If you have the Professional Edition you can export all your password information and import it into another product.
We have not tested 1.3 with Vista.
I agree that on older versions of Windows, the .NET Framework itself takes some time to start. If Access Manager is the first program (that uses the .NET Framework) to start on your PC, it will cause the Framework to load first.
On Windows Vista the total startup time is less than 2 seconds on our test PCs. If you are using Vista then there is obviously something not quite right if it is taking 20 seconds.
The 'double-click' problem that you mention is also on version 1.3. This is due to the way that the Windows textbox handles clicks on web addresses. You can usually resolve this by making sure that there is a new line at the end of each web address. Alternatively you can click on the Notes header bar or the Links toolbar icon to get a quick list of web sites.
We are committed to using the .NET Framework because this is Microsoft's core software development technology and it is now a key component of Windows itself.
If you really are not happy with you current setup, I suggest that you look at some of the other password managers that are available. I would not recommend moving back to 1.3 as it relies on older technology that is no longer supported. |

Thank you for your response. I appreciate you looking into this.
Keep an open mind and reconsider your use of the Microsoft .NET Framework and C# as it may be good for developers, but terrible for the end users. It's not a good idea to rely on Microsoft technology and resources for the development of software. There are better options and Microsoft is really not all that bright. Think outside the box. |
